Clive Myrie is one of Britain’s most respected broadcasters, recognised as a distinguished journalist, presenter and keynote speaker with decades of experience reporting from the frontline of world events. Best known as a Chief News Presenter for the BBC and the host of ‘Mastermind’ and ‘Celebrity Mastermind’, Clive has become synonymous with calm, authoritative reporting during moments of international crisis. His defining achievement came in 2022 when he anchored the BBC’s coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine live from Kyiv, earning widespread praise for his professionalism and courage. Alongside his acclaimed journalism career, Clive has also become a celebrated travel presenter, fronting programmes including ‘Clive Myrie’s Caribbean Adventure’ and ‘Clive Myrie’s African Adventure’, the latter airing on BBC Two in 2026. With a career that spans foreign correspondence, primetime broadcasting, documentaries and live event hosting, Clive is regarded as one of the most versatile and trusted figures in British media.
Born in Farnworth, Lancashire, to Jamaican immigrant parents, Clive’s upbringing shaped the curiosity, resilience and cultural awareness that would later define his career. He graduated from the University of Sussex with a law degree before joining the BBC in 1987 as a trainee local radio reporter. Early assignments with BBC Radio Bristol and Independent Radio News allowed Clive to develop the storytelling skills and journalistic instincts that quickly marked him out as a rising talent. By 1996, he had become a BBC Foreign Correspondent, beginning an extraordinary international career that would see him report from more than 90 countries worldwide. Clive held major correspondent positions in Tokyo, Los Angeles, Paris and across Asia, covering defining global events including wars in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq, alongside major political stories such as the impeachment of President Bill Clinton. His willingness to report from hostile environments, including being embedded with Royal Marines during the Iraq War, demonstrated the bravery and dedication that continue to underpin his journalism today.
Clive’s achievements throughout his career have earned him recognition as one of the UK’s leading journalists and presenters. In 2009, he became a presenter for BBC News, before going on to front the ‘BBC News at Six’ and ‘BBC News at Ten’ from 2019 onwards. His transition into entertainment broadcasting came in 2021 when he was announced as the new host of ‘Mastermind’ and ‘Celebrity Mastermind’, succeeding John Humphrys and bringing a fresh warmth and intelligence to the iconic programmes. The same year, Clive won both the ‘Television Journalist of the Year’ and ‘Network Presenter of the Year’ honours at the RTS Television Journalism Awards. Additional accolades include the Peabody Award, the Royal Television Society Award for Best Foreign Coverage, the Golden Nymph Journalism Award and multiple MVSA Journalism Awards. In 2025, he received a BAFTA Daytime Award for ‘Clive Myrie’s Caribbean Adventure’ and was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Oxford. Clive is also an accomplished author, publishing his memoir, ‘Everything is Everything’, in 2023, and currently serves as Chancellor of the University of the Arts London.
As a keynote speaker, Clive offers audiences a unique combination of global insight, intelligence and engaging storytelling. Drawing on decades of experience covering conflict zones, political upheaval and international affairs, he speaks with authority on leadership, resilience, diversity, identity and the importance of accurate journalism in a rapidly changing world. Clive also shares compelling reflections on travel, culture and education, themes explored through his acclaimed BBC documentary series and public speaking appearances, including the ‘York Festival of Ideas’ in 2026. Equally accomplished as a conference moderator, awards host and after-dinner speaker, Clive combines professionalism with warmth, humour and authenticity, making him an outstanding choice for corporate events and leadership forums.
Given his expansive experience across the geopolitical landscape, Clive Myrie was hand-picked as one of The World's Top 20 Geopolitical Speakers to Hire in 2024.
