Data Consultant Who Outed Cambridge Analytica Data Scandal

Christopher Wylie is a Canadian data consultant who previously worked at Cambridge Analytica.

In 2018, he released a cache of documents prompting the FacebookCambridge Analytica data scandal, giving The Guardian documents that described the secret workings behind Cambridge Analytica. centring around Cambridge Analytica‘s alleged unauthorized possession of personal private data from some 87 million Facebook user accounts, obtained for the purpose of creating targeted political campaigns for the 2016 US presidential elections. The campaigns were based on psychological and personality profiles mined from the Facebook data which Wylie had commissioned in a mass-data scraping exercise.

Wylie’s revelations triggered government investigations on both sides of the Atlantic and raised wider privacy concerns. He appeared in the 2019 documentary The Great Hack.
