Golf speaker and former international amateur Julie Otto is best known for her part in the British & Irish Curtis Cup teams of the 1980’s & 90’s. Retiring before achieving professional status Julie went on to work in golfing administration and continues to maintain a successful career as a sports speaker.
Based at the Elle Sports Club in Fife Julie Otto works prolifically as a golf speaker across Scotland. she is well remembered for her role as an international amateur and participated in numerous Curtis Cups. Otto retired as an amateur after the British victory over the United States in 1996 Curtis Cup.
Despite retiring Julie Otto remained involved in the golfing industry, taking on a role as a coach, administrator and golf speaker. Her most significant contributions to the sport as an administrator is arguably her work at golf’s world governing body, the R&A, where she was eventually made Assistant Director – Rules.
As well as working as an administrator Julie continued to play an active role in the sport itself, coaching and training would-be golfers and refereeing a number of men’s professional games, including nine Open Championships, a Solheim Cup and the Walker Cup. Julie is available for hire as a referee and after dinner speaker for conferences and charity golf days.
In 2011, at the age of 44, Julie Otto came out of retirement to once again participate as a player and to further develop her work in golf tuition. The former British Champion joined the Ladies European Tour in 2013.
Though Julie continues to work as a sports speaker and coach she also holds high hopes for her own professional career. When not participating in competitions Julie Otto works as a golf speaker and Assistant PGA Professional whilst working towards her own PGA Qualification.
