Laura Davies is one of England’s most decorated golfers of all time. Over the course of a long career as a golfer, Laura has secured many honours across multiple major competitions. With 87 tour wins to date, Laura is known as one of the most successful British Female golfers of all time. She has won 4 LPGA Tour major tournaments and continues to play professionally to this day.
Laura started her competitive golfing career as an amateur at international level for Great Britain where she achieved various honours, notably becoming the Welsh Ladies Open Stroke Play Champion in 1984 and turned pro just a year later. Her first year as a professional saw her achieve Rookie of the Year along side Order of Merit titles. Her success as a young professional continued when she went on to win the U.S. Women’s Open in 1987. Following her success, she was a member of the first European Solheim Cup and has since become the all-time leading points scorer in the competition being awarded an MBE in 1988 and CBE in 1990.
In 1994, Laura became the first golfer ever to win on 5 different tours in a year achieving status of Sports Journalists’ Association Sportswoman of the Year the following two years. Davies has won countless honours and continues to be an inspiration to all golfers and a role model for women in sport. Another record was broken by Laura Davies when she became the first woman to compete in the men’s European Tour. Laura continues to play professionally, being awarded a DBE in the 2014 Birthday Honours for her services to golf. This was further recognised when Laura was appointed the first honorary president of the Parliamentary Golf Group. She continues to perform at the highest level claiming the first U.S. Senior Women’s Open scoring 16-under-par!
