Owais Shah is a well-respected, English former cricketer, who has represented England in all forms of the game. Owais’ career spans across countless cricket teams, from Essex County Cricket Club to Kochi Tuskers Kerala, he even had a short stint at Wellington Firebirds, New Zealand. Owais boasted a successful career, before announcing his retirement from first-class cricket from 2013, where he later joined Hampshire for the NatWest t20 Blast in May 2014.
Owais’ first cricketing breakthrough was as a middle-order batsman for Middlesex between 1996 and 2010, which led to him playing 71 ODIs and 17 Twenty20 Internationals from 2001 to 2009. In 2006, at the peak of his career, Owais played 6 Tests, starting with a strong 88 on debut against India in 2006, later making another appearance in 2009 against the West Indies.
During two seasons between 2009 and 2010, Owais represented the Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders, before being bought by Kochi Tuskers Kerala for the following two seasons. After Kochi Tuskers were excluded from the 2012 season, Owais played for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 5. During this, Owais represented the Essex County Cricket Club from 2011 to 2013.
For $275,000, Owais was signed by the Delhi Daredevils, before being traded to Kolkata Knight Riders in exchange of Moises Henriques. Prior to playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 5, Owais was bought by the new team Kochi Tuskers Kerala for $200,000 and played for them in the fourth season of the IPL.
In his later career, Shah served as interim head coach of United Arab Emirates National Team, between 2016 and 2017, during which the UAE played in the 2017 Desert T20 Challenge.
