An unrivalled middle-order batsman, Owais represented his country in his senior career on a number of occasions, continually proving not only his talent for the sport, but team orientated mindset. After becoming the top scorer of the First Division of the County Championships in 2005, Owais was selected for the England tour of the West Indies and made his Test debut for the team. Since his strong start on the English side Owais continued to star in One Day International matches and Twenty20 Internationals.
As a formidable player, Owais was snapped up for domestic teams and played a vital role in the Indian Premier League, The Wellington Firebirds, Cape Cobras and Essex, showcasing his skillset across continents. Becoming involved in cricket before he even became a teenager, Owais was hailed as a prodigy of the sport due to his unparalleled skills at such an age. Joining his first club, Wycombe House Cricket Club, he broke club records, won awards and continued to show promise for a future career.
Representing both Middlesex and England in the Under 19 division, Owais captained the national side to victory in the 1998 World Cup and won the ‘Most Promising Young Player Award’. Since retiring from first class cricket in 2013, Owais has focused on the limited overs opportunities, preferring the format of the one-day events. He has led the Rajshahi Royals to victory in the Bangladesh Premier League and acted as head coach of the United Arab Emirates national team.
