Tina Brown CBE is editor-in-chief of Tatler, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker and Talk. She started her career in 1979 writing for Tatler, before becoming an award-winning author and journalist. Today, Tina tours the speaking circuit to recount her incredible career, as well as supply audiences with top tips for succeeding in a male-dominated environment. Throughout her career, Tina has carved a reputation for being innovative and creative, particularly after transforming Tatler into a glossy, high-profit publication. She uses this experience to educate businesses and organisations on how to challenge the status quo and incorporate innovative thinking into their daily practices.
After being appointed editor-in-chief at Tatler in 1979, Tina burst onto the media scene aged just 25. She later edited for Vanity Fair, spending nearly a decade with the globally recognised publication. From there, Tina became the first female editor of The New Yorker, a history-defining achievement that reflects her industry prominence. Female empowerment is a topic close to Tina’s heart; as a public speaker, she often discusses the secrets to succeeding in a male-dominated environment. In 2010, she launched Women in the World, a live journalism platform that “amplified the unheard voices of global women on the front lines of change.” The summit, which sold-out the New York’s Lincoln Centre ten times, featured the likes of Melinda Gates and Oprah Winfrey, among other CEOs and activists.
In 2008, Tina co-founded The Daily Beast, an American news website which won News Website of the Year twice. Tina herself is no stranger to awards, having received ten National Magazine Awards. From her early career writing for Punch, a humour magazine, and extensive freelancing for The Sunday Times and Telegraph, Tina went on to join Talk magazine, a multi-media company. Tina later hosted an interview series titled Topic A for CNBC, where she spoke to the likes of former Prime Minister Tony Blair and Hollywood star, George Clooney.
Tina is also a celebrated author; her biography on Princess Diana titled The Diana Chronicles was a New York Times best seller. It was so successful, that Tina published a sequel in 2022 called The Palace Papers. Reflecting on her time with Vanity Fair, Tina also wrote the explosive book, The Vanity Fair Diaries, which was one of the best books of 2017 by Time, People, Amazon, The Guardian, The Economist, Entertainment Weekly, and Vogue. Tina’s extensive experience as a writer and TV host makes her an engaging speaker, whose confident speaking style and eloquent discussion of diverse topics captivate audiences from start to finish.
Among her other achievements, including receiving her CBE in 2000, Tina has been recognised with several awards. These include four George Pollock awards and five Overseas Press Club Awards. A revered figure in the journalism industry, Tina was inducted into the Magazine Editor’s Hall of Fame in 2007. She was later honoured as Library Lion by the New York Public Library and received the Women in Journalism Lifetime Achievement Award. All these awards and honours reflect Tina’s unrivalled contributions to the worlds of journalism and visual media.
