Sir Steve Hansen is acclaimed for his tenure as the Head Coach of the New Zealand National Rugby Union Team, the All-Blacks. Under his meticulous guidance, Steve guided the All-Blacks to their 2015 Rugby World Cup win, before stepping down from the role at the end of the 2019 season. In his youth, Steve represented the Canterbury Rugby Football Union, making 21 appearances. In 2002, Steve was appointed as the Forwards Coach for the Wales National Rugby Team, before being promoted to Head Coach. Following two years in Wales, Steve returned to New Zealand to take on the role of Assistant Coach of the All-Blacks, helping Graham Henry to coach New Zealand to their 2011 World Cup final win against France. Steve was then formally appointed as the Head Coach of the All-Blacks in 2011.
Aside from coaching the All-Blacks to their 2015 World Cup win, Steve was also instrumental in helping the All-Blacks to win The Rugby Championship for six consecutive years, the Dave Gallaher Trophy on six occasions and the Freedom Cup for eight consecutive years. He also helped the All-Blacks to earn recognition of World Rugby Team of the Year in 2012 to 2017, having also personally earned the title of World Rugby Coach of the Year in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. Having also aided the All-Blacks in winning Laureus World Team of the Year 2016, Steve’s influence on the team is evident. Most recently, in 2023, Steve returned to help the All-Blacks, assisting Eddie Jones with the 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign.
