Steph McGovern is a BAFTA-nominated broadcaster, television personality, author and actress. Working in financial journalism for over 15 years, Steph was a former presenter on BBC Breakfast for 8 years, bringing a unique perspective and breadth of knowledge from a wide range of fields, from engineering and economics to journalism and media.
Beginning her career as a producer for daily financial news on the Today programme on Radio 4, she soon progressed to lead producer on the business news of the BBC’s One, Six and Ten O’Clock news bulletins, working alongside Robert Peston. In 2011, she joined BBC Breakfast as a business presenter, becoming a regular presenter for the whole show. Steph co-presented Shop Well for Less and joined the team at BBC Watchdog in the same year. Establishing herself as a regular voice in British media featured on BBC Radio 5 Live, CBBC, BBC Two, and was a panellist and host on Have I Got News for You. Steph left BBC Breakfast in 2019, joining Channel 4. In 2020, she launched Steph’s Packed Lunch after delays with the original launch due to COVID. She starred on the second series of The Masked Dancer and competed on Netflix’s Celebrity Bear Hunt, where she reached the final. In 2024, she joined the cast of Smoggie Queens, making her debut acting appearance. Her most recent show, Farm 999 on BBC One, explores the hidden dangers of life in the countryside.
Alongside her TV and radio features, Steph also hosts the podcast The Rest is Money with Robert Peston, offering in-depth analysis on market trends, business strategies and financial policies. Steph is also a budding novelist, her debut novel ‘Deadline’ receiving great acclaim, and she is currently writing her second novel. As a result of her incredible career, Steph has received a BAFTA TV nomination, an RTS Presenter Award nomination, and was named Young Engineer for Britain.
A prime-time television star, Steph uses her platform to run workshops and mentor young people in her hometown of Teesside and is also a patron of Rubies, a charity that supports disadvantaged children. Steph was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering for her advocacy in STEM ambassadorship and outreach work. With passion, clarity, and a talent for storytelling, Steph is a fantastic addition to a multitude of events due to her ability to connect across an array of audiences in a variety of fields.
