Former French rugby union player, Serge Betsen is best known as the flanker for London Wasps and the French International team. One of the top and strongest flankers of his era, Serge is considered a leading expert within his field of work, meaning he is easily able to give in-depth advice into effective teambuilding exercises, leadership enhancement and achieving peak performance.
Kickstarting his amateur rugby career in the local French team Club Sportif de Clichy, Serge joined his first senior squad, Biarritz Olympique at the age of 17. With his incredible strength and natural sportsmanship, he eventually became noticed by the French national team and won his first cap in 1997.
Having established himself as a first-team regular by 2002, Serge became a pivotal player in France’s 20-15 victory over England during the 2002 Six Nations Championship which led to them taking the Grand Slam. He won France’s International Player of the Year award and also secured himself guaranteed selection for the 2003 Rugby World Cup team. A fearless tackler, Serge also became a key member in the French victory during the 2007 Six Nations Championship having made an incredible 56 tackles throughout the tournament.
Following on from his international retirement in 2008, Betsen joined London Wasps where he became the captain during the 2008-09 season before he announced retirement from rugby altogether in 2012. Most recently, he has gone onto sign with London Scottish as the defence coach and has also set up various organisations in aid of charity. Serge Betsen Academy and French Legends organise events and charitable rugby matches to raise funding for underprivileged children and citizens of lower economically developed countries. A member of the Champions for Peace organisation that unites over 90 elite sports champions, Serge has displayed his high level of professionalism and is now reflecting on his wisdom as a consultant at Serge Betsen Consulting and Serge Betsen Rugby.
After leaving his mark on the sporting world, Serge has now gone onto conker the after-dinner speaking circuit as one of the most sought after for discussing personal development in both business and sport.
