Samantha Simmonds is a host, newsreader, journalist, TV broadcaster and podcast host. Having been a broadcaster for over 20 years, she currently presents on BBC World News and Sunday Politics on BB1, covering both the international events of the day and interviewing senior politicians, business leaders, celebrities and many others.
Her passion for journalism began whilst at Liverpool University, writing for the university newspaper. After appearing on ITV’s Blind Date, Samantha achieved her degree in History and Communications. She then achieved her postgraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism from City University. Her professional career began when she became a TV news producer for Channel 5 News before moving on to the BBC. Samantha eventually became a reporter for BBC Breakfast as well as BBC London News. During this time, she was one of the first UK Journalists to cover the 9/11 attacks. In 2005, she joined Sky News, where she reported on the Royal wedding, the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, the murder of Jo Cox, and the deaths of Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger, and Amy Winehouse. Since 2016, she has been a presenter on BBC World News and BBC 1 Sunday Politics.
Alongside her professional career, she is a contributor to The Huffington Post and regularly appears on daily TV and radio shows discussing parenting and women’s issues. Samantha is also the host of the podcast ‘It’s a Grown-Up Life’.
