Ruth Amos is a young inventor, entrepreneur and edutuber. The Managing Director of StairSteady, she is a trustee for Young Engineers and Greenbelt and actively encourages young people into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) through her involvement with Your Life.
Ruth is regularly in demand as an inspirational and motivational public speaker. After designing the StairSteady as part of her GCSE Resistant Materials Course, Ruth established StairSteady Ltd in 2006, and then went on to win Young Engineer for Britain in 2006 with her design. The StairSteady is a mobility device to maintain independence and safety on the stairs. Following on from this success she took her product to market in 2008 – it is now available through a network of dealers in the UK and is available in Canada, the USA and parts of Europe.
Ruth is an Edutuber with her YouTube Channel Kids Invent Stuff, set up with fellow inventor, Shawn. They set kids a monthly challenge and build and test these inventions on camera. Each week they release a new video aiming to inspire and engage young people in STEAM. As well as being an active entrepreneur, Ruth is also an accomplished speaker, she is living proof that engineering and science is not boring and every word she utters about business is pure motivational magic. She is always a hit on stage at colleges, universities and corporate events.
Ruth is also a specialist on the Future of Business, curating Nesta’s Futurefest Future of Work theme in 2016. In her speech The Future of Business, Ruth raises fascinating points about Artificial Intelligence, implants and asks what the career trajectories are for Generation Z and beyond.
She highlights interesting questions about advancing technology and the knock-on effect on the education system, after all, she questions, how can we educate the next generation for a virtually unknown future world of work? She discusses ‘click revenue’ or earning through likes, shares and watches – a market she believes will get bigger and bolder as an industry. A powerful speech in a changing world and essential listening for corporates, business leaders, HR, Marketing and Sales professionals.
Ruth is a trustee and an active member of ‘Greenbelt’ - a Christian Music and Arts Festival and involved with the FairTrade movement where she organises Be Good Be Beautiful events which promote organic and FairTrade clothing.

Ruth is a fantastic role model for young women.” - The Firm

“Just a quick note to thank you again for the brilliant opening keynote for our summer school last week. You hit exactly the right tone and I received many positive comments afterwards from our students about being inspired by your talk. You explained the processes, the learning's and the issues about building a business really well and to manage it so young was just amazing. So, thanks for a great start to the summer school and for being a great inspiration to our students.” - University of Surrey
“Personable and engaging. Ruth built a good rapport with the parents and young people in the audience. Ruth’s story showed how big dreams can become realised from small ideas. We wanted to show that at our school students could achieve in engineering. Ruth’s presentation brought to life a successful case study of how this can actually happen. The audience really enjoyed the entire evening with some parents specifically singling out Ruth as they’re highlight of the evening. We thought that Ruth’s overall performance was engaging and relevant." - Discovery School
