Professor Rose Luckin is an internationally respected academic and one of the world’s leading authorities on Artificial Intelligence in education. A Professor Emerita at University College London and Founder and CEO of Educate Ventures Research, she has spent over three decades shaping how technology can enhance human learning. Rose advises governments, universities and global organisations on the ethical and effective use of AI in education. Her influence reaches from classrooms to corporate boardrooms, and her work has earned her global recognition, including the Bett Outstanding Achievement Award, the ISTE Impact Award, and being named among the ‘50 Most Influential Women in UK Tech’.
Rose’s journey into education and technology began after she achieved her Associateship of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. Motivated by a deep curiosity about how people learn, she returned to study at the University of Sussex, earning a First Class BA in AI and Computer Science followed by a PhD in Cognitive and Computing Sciences. Her early research explored how technology could be designed to better understand and respond to human intelligence. During her time at Sussex, she co-founded the Human Centred Technology Research Group and later became Pro-Vice-Chancellor, leading innovation across teaching and learning.
Throughout her distinguished career, Rose has held influential academic and leadership roles, driving collaboration between educators, researchers and technologists. At UCL, she served on the Director’s Strategy Group at the Institute of Education and led the UCL EDUCATE programme, which supports evidence-based innovation in educational technology. She was also awarded the International Francqui Chair by the Francqui Foundation in Belgium and named one of the ‘20 Most Influential People in Education’ by the Seldon List. Her books, ‘Machine Learning and Human Intelligence’ and ‘AI for Schoolteachers’, have become essential reading for educators worldwide, with the former translated into Mandarin and influencing AI strategies in China. Alongside her academic achievements, Rose contributes regularly to publications such as the Times Educational Supplement, the Financial Times and The Guardian, and appears frequently across major broadcast media.
Rose is a sought-after keynote speaker whose talks explore how AI can empower teachers, students and organisations to learn and adapt more effectively. She brings clarity to complex issues, blending academic insight with practical guidance. Her keynote topics include AI in education, ethical innovation, data and human intelligence, and the future of learning. Audiences value her ability to make advanced technology understandable and relevant, while encouraging thoughtful debate about its impact on society.
