The first ever magician to win Britain’s Got Talent, Lance Corporal Richard Jones blew audiences away in 2016 with an incredible and moving performance that paid homage to Second World War veteran, former prisoner of war and oldest living member of the Magic Circle, Fergus Anckorn. Simon Cowell was so impressed with the spectacle that he said, ‘You, sir, are a wizard. That has to be magic’.
Despite enjoying magic at a young age, it was not until Richard joined the army at 18 that he started studying the art seriously. He would practise in front of his fellow soldiers, who he says were his toughest audience! Richard was posted to the Band of the Household Calvary as a mounted duty man in 2014, where he still serves alongside his magic career, and took part in the Queen’s birthday celebrations.
Since winning BGT, Richard has performed for royalty at the Royal Variety Performance, had a sell-out UK tour and headlined a West End show. Having frequently performed for royalty, Richard has established himself as one of the nation’s favourite magicians, and gained himself a seat in the prestigious magic circle. He has also released two children’s magic sets, so he can share his passion with younger generations.
