Ray Dalio is a global macro investor and the founder of Bridgewater Associates, one of the world's largest investment firms. In 1971, Ray graduated from C.W. Post College with a BS in Finance. He then worked as a clerk on the New York Stock Exchange before earning his MBA from Harvard Business School. Returning to the New York Stock Exchange, Ray primarily traded commodity futures. Shortly after, he became Director of Commodities at Dominick & Dominick LLC, and a futures broker at Shearson Hayden Stone in 1974. Just a year later, Ray founded Bridgewater Associates, quickly serving corporate clients like McDonald’s, the World Bank and Eastman Kodak. The firm also started a subscription-based research report, titled ‘Daily Observations’, which continues to be a trusted source of global market analysis today. Ray’s unique All-Weather strategy and Pure Alpha approach completely modernised institutional investing, and predicted the 2007-08 financial crisis in advance.
Recognising his undeniable impact on the industry, Ray was named one of Bloomberg Markets' 50 Most Influential People and was part of Time Magazine's Top 100 Most Influential People list. Alongside this, he ranked second on Institutional Investor’s Alpha Rich List, spotlighting his successful hedge management skills. Ray has published six books within his highly popular ‘Principles’ series. His titles, ‘Principles: Life and Work’ and ‘Principles for Navigating Big Debt Crises’ quickly became New York Times Bestsellers. Ray’s latest book, ‘Economic and Investment Principles,’ is set to be released in February 2026. Ray’s philanthropy has seen him donate more than $1 billion to charitable grants. With his wife, Barbara Dalio, he founded the Dalio Foundation in 2003 and has helped various causes, from education to ocean conservation. Most recently, they created the Dalio Centre for Health Justice and donated $10 million to help with the Covid-19 pandemic.
