Perou, a master photographer, specialising in fashion, editorial and portrait photography, is one of the most iconic and inspirational figures in the industry. Founder of Perou Inc., creator of the popular E4 TV show Dirty Sexy Things and a panel judge on Make Me a Supermodel, Perou has successfully utilised his uncanny charm and wit and his eye for detail to build his brand. Although Perou claims, “I don’t consider that I have a job... needing to photograph everything is a compulsion”, the notion itself rather perfectly encapsulates how deep his passion for photography runs.
Perou graduated from the Polytechnic of Central London with a degree in Film, Video and Photography in 1994, ready to embark on his career as a young photographer. His first job saw him working at Click Studios in London as a Hire Studio Assistant. This gave him a step on the ladder, allowing him to gain essential experience while making crucial connections, meeting leaders in the photography world as he worked.
It was through his dedication and strong work ethic that he made a strong connection with Dazed and Confused Magazine, through whom Perou landed his next job as Deputy Photo Editor. This position gave him the opportunity to flourish, and in no time at all he was shooting more than editing at locations all over the world.
Perou continued to expand his professional photography skills and as his portfolio expanded, his clientele grew to include the likes of Vogue, Q Magazine, Levis, the BBC, American Esquire and individuals such as 50 Cent, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Z, Daft Punk, David Beckham, Justin Timberlake and many others.
Going from strength to strength, Perou’s next move was on to the TV screen, and not just in the UK; in 2003, he featured in Absolutely Fabulous and appeared as a panel judge on Make Me a Supermodel for both the UK and America. Following this, Perou created the documentary series Dirty Sexy Things, which took a closer look at the realities of the modelling industry. Having worked with some of the largest companies in the world, his knowledge on brands and how they work has helped him build and develop his own.
