Mondo Duplantis

Mondo Duplantis is an incredible Olympian in the sport of Pole Vaulting. Widely regarded as the greatest pole vaulter of all time, Mondo is an Olympic, World, and European champion. As a revolutionary figure in the sport, he competes for Sweden to honour his Swedish heritage from his mother’s side of the family. Mondo is currently the world record holder for both outdoor and indoor pole vaulting, furthering his credibility as a legend in the sport. 

After being born into an athletic family, Mondo first tried pole vaulting at only 3 years old. Quickly taking to the sport, he set his first age group world best at age 7. Mondo only excelled from here, later surpassing world bests for ages 11 and 12 when he was only 10. Later in his career, Mondo set more records and went on to win numerous competitions and titles. As a teenager, he won the World Youth Championships and continued his ascent by winning the European U20 title and then the World U20 title. Despite his American upbringing, Mondo made the decision to compete for Sweden internationally and spent time learning the language and engaging deeply with the culture. 

More recently, Mondo’s breakthrough came when he won his first major title at the European Championships in 2018. As well as winning he became the youngest athlete to clear 6 metres, establishing his reputation early on. Mondo won his first Olympic gold medal in Tokyo 2020, which he recently repeated when he won gold in Paris 2024. It was within this competition that Mondo set a new world record of 6.25 metres and an Olympic record of 6.10 metres, showcasing his dominance in the sport. Throughout his career, Mondo has been honoured with multiple awards and accolades. Examples include being named the European and World Male Athlete of the Year multiple times, further solidifying his status as a global sports prodigy. 

Having revolutionised pole vaulting, breaking numerous records, and winning many competitions, Mondo is nothing short of a sporting legend.
