Award-winning mental health advocate, Mark Williams is leading the conversation on men’s mental health. An often-lesser discussed element of health, Mark is paving the way for open discussion, support, and resources for males experiencing psychological difficulties. With first-hand experience of the detrimental effects of the stigma surrounding men that speak up, Mark is determined to transform the future so no one else must suffer alone. An experienced and compelling speaker, Mark’s story is one of inspiration and motivates others, be it individuals or corporations, to support all aspects of mental health both professionally and personally.
Across the globe, Mark has attended over 100 speaking engagements, known for his honesty, transparency and educational impact on the audiences he encounters, Mark’s 2020 TEDx Talk on new father’s mental health was the pinnacle of his speaking career to date. With a portfolio of previous clients spanning industry events to corporate occasions, Mark has proven the extent of his insight to the likes of The Houses of Parliament, NHS Conferences, and ExCel London. Sharing his personal experiences, Mark brings humor to a taboo subject and shares how businesses can support the mental health of their workforce, individuals can access resources and the benefits of being yourself. A unique opportunity to gain a fresh perspective, and create valuable long-lasting change, Mark is a speaker like no other.
The story behind the inspirational advocate started in 2004 after the birth of Mark’s son. Plagued with worry, guilt and a host of overwhelming emotions at the prospect of being a new father, Mark’s mental health took a downwards spiral, as did his wife’s. After suffering a breakdown, Mark learned he had post-natal depression; an illness usually associated with mothers. Speaking up, getting support, and moving forward, Mark dedicated his future to breaking the taboo around men’s mental health and reducing the number of 1 in 3 fathers suffering from post-natal depression.
Founding Fathers Reaching Out, International Fathers Mental Health Day and the #HowAreYouDaddy campaign, Mark has redefined the conversation around men’s mental health. Named Inspirational Father of the Year 2012 at the Pride of Britain Awards, Mark’s influential contributions continue to have a global impact. An accomplished author, Mark contributes to several magazines and wrote ‘Daddy Blues’ sharing his story, which you can hear at his speaking events.
