Lance Armstrong is a world-renowned cyclist and endurance athlete. Currently the host of two podcasts, The Move, a top 10 in the sport and recreation category on Apple and The Forward, where he conducts interviews with notable authors, politicians, athletes and influencers. Winning seven consecutive Tour de France races after beating stage three testicular cancer, Lance talks about winning at any cost, his fall from grace, and his inspirational journey of redemption in his speaking engagements.
From an early age, Lance developed an interest in cycling and was invited to train with the Olympic development team whilst still in high school. In 1990, he qualified for the junior world team and achieved 11th place in the World Championship Road Race, attaining the best time of any American since 1976. During the same year, he won his First Union Grand Prix and the Thrift Drug Classic and became the US National Amateur Champion. A rising star, he gave an epic performance in the Tour DuPont in 1991, covering 1085 miles over 11 days, indicating that he was ready to compete in the international cycling circuit.
He won the stage at the Settimana Bergamasca race in Italy before coming second in the US Olympic time trials in 1992. Going professional, he joined the Motorola cycling team and achieved a respectable second place in the Zurich World Cup race. Adding to his impressive cycling record, he won the Kmart West Virginia Classic, the Thrift Drug Classic and the CoreStates Race in 1993. He also finished second at the Tour DuPont and won the World Road Race Championship in Oslo, becoming the youngest person to ever win the contest. In 1996, he set multiple records at the Tour DuPont, including the fastest average speed in a time trial and the largest margin of victory. In the same year, Lance was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had multiple tumours in his brain.
After undergoing chemotherapy and multiple life-threatening surgeries, he became cancer free in 1997, returning to competitive cycling soon after. Founding the Lance Armstrong Foundation for Cancer, now known as LiveStrong, Lance has raised over half a billion dollars for charity. He recently raised another $600,000 when he ran the New York Marathon and made a return to the Tour de France to raise awareness for leukaemia. Best-selling author of the autobiographies, It’s Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life and Every Second Counts, Lance candidly shares his thrilling story in his speaking engagements.
