James Kennan, or Kennan the Poet when he performs, is an incredible spoken word artist, poet & storyteller. Using a deep emotional understanding of the human condition, Kennan’s words ignite reflection and inspiration among audiences, encouraging them to approach identities and connections from a different perspective.
Armed with a degree in acting from The Royal Centre School of Speech and Drama, Kennan became a freelance cameraman and video editor for Gighouse Films. Here, he honed his storytelling skills, creating films to move clients in particular ways. Kennan then became the Director of Flash Focus, where he produced impactful visual content that delivers on quality, creativity, and satisfaction. Since 2016, he has officially been a performance poet, speaker and visual storyteller, bringing depth, clarity and originality to each event he is booked for.
Alongside his professional work, he has collaborated with the likes of Kit Harrington and Spencer Matthews, as well as top organisations including IHG, Earthlete, and charities such as Street Child of Sierra Leone. He also released his remarkable spoken word EP ‘A Fear to Dream’, which explores fear, courage, life, and identity.
