Kate Wylie

Kate Wylie is a leading authority in sustainability, currently working for Mars and as a board member for various organisations concerning the future of sustainability. Sitting at the helm of sustainability for a huge retailer of consumer goods, Kate has pioneered sustainable packaging and made a transformational change in the movement towards a more sustainable business. Named in the Top 30 Women Shaping Sustainable Business list by Business Green, Kate is also a popular choice as a speaker for corporate events, specialising in topics such as purpose-led business, sustainable supply chains and social impact.

Best known for her efforts championing sustainable practises, Kate is currently acting as the Chief Sustainability Officer of Chanel and was formerly the Global Vice President of Sustainability for Mars. Appointed at Mars back in 2017, Kate made great progress with the company and led their bid for sustainable sourcing, packaging and development company-wide. Kate is also known for her work as a Board of Advisors member for the DEFRA Council for Sustainable Business and the Dasgupta Review on Economics of Biodiversity, HM Treasury.

Originally studying Economics at the University of Manchester, Kate began work in ethics and responsibility, such as for The Carbon Neutral Company. During the early days of her career, Kate began to establish her name as a businesswoman, achieving funding for the evaluation of sustainable childcare centres. She later went on to become the Global Citizenship Manager for eBay, developing the company’s sustainable strategy which was recognised by DFID as one of the best practice case studies for business. Kate then began working as a freelance Senior Sustainability Consultant, whose expertise reached businesses such as Barclays and Etsy.

Kate has also formerly worked as a Trustee for the Alexandra Wylie Tower Foundation, supporting vulnerable children in the city of London to help follow their dreams. She has also been a member of the Sustainable Food Lab Advisory Board and a Visiting Business Fellow at the University of Oxford, before becoming the Global Sustainability Director at Mars. Kate has also been influential on the Investment Committee for the Livelihoods Fund for Family Farming and named as one of the Top 100 Environmentalists by Forbes.
