One of golf’s distinctive characters, John Daly is a naturally gifted golfer who is best known for his huge drives and ‘non-country club’ appearance. A two time major champion, Daly has enjoyed a hugely successful career as one of the best golfers of the modern era. A fabulous golf speaker, Daly talks of his time mixing it with legends of the games alongside what is needed to consistently perform under pressure and succeed, making him one of the most respected figures on the after dinner speaker circuit. Turning professional in 1987, Daly gained his first victory in the 1987 Missouri Open and joined the PGA four years later in 1991. Winning the PGA Championship in the same year, Daly was the ninth and final alternate for the tournament after Nick price had dropped out. Finishing the tournament with scores of 69-67-69-71, Daly won by three strokes and attracted a huge amount of media attention for his efforts.
Named PGA Rookie of the Year for his performances throughout the year, John soon had his own cult following and began to draw fans that would have never normally got involved in golf. Daly’s ability to maximise success and achieve goals in his career makes him an invaluable sports speaker, engaging with guests and delivering wonderful advice in social and business environments alike. John went on to unexpectedly win the 1995 British Open after a playoff with Constantino Rocco. Daly is the only two-time major champion to have not played in the Ryder Cup, a distinction often used in sports quiz shows.
After 189 events without a win, Daly made a comeback in 2004 by winning the Buick Invitational and earnt the title of PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year. Winning the playoff against Luke Donald and Chris Riley, John ranked 4th for a statistic for the 2004 PGA Tour season and brought his world ranking back into the top 50 in the world. Daly’s ability to overcome the adversity a long stint without a victory and seize the opportunity of success makes him an ideal golf speaker for sporting events. Recently, Daly has begun playing for PGA Tour Champion since he became eligible in 2016. He won the Insperity Invitational in 2017 only a year after his debut into the tour. He continues to play regularly on the Champions Tour whilst also working within his golf course design business named JD Designs. Equally at home, hosting golf days as he is speaking about his time on the course, John is a wonderful character to have with you during your day playing golf. Mixing with guests and answering questions only a pro-golfer would be able to answer, John can join in on match play before retiring to the clubhouse with guests to enjoy a meal.
