John began his career as a Professional Basketball Player in the National Basketball Association, making headlines as the first British player to have a career in the NBA. After playing for a large number of successful teams, he moved into his career as a consultant when he became the Owner of APS Ltd in 2002. Since then, John has forged an incredible career as a strategic business consultant, having founded APS Intelligence in 2007, focusing on the biggest challenges that impact organisational performance. As a passionate organisational psychologist, John has become a Contributing Writer and Associate Fellow for The British Psychological Society, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health.

Dedicated to the study of the future of work and organisational behaviour, John is also committed to creating excellent workplace cultures. In addition to these roles, John is also a Professor of Leadership at the University of Exeter Business School, a Research Fellow at the University of East London, a NED of Greencore, a Training Partner of the NHS Leadership Academy, a NED of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and a Board Trustee of The Duke of Edinburgh Award. Aside from his work commitments, John has used his prominence as a former NBA player to raise awareness, having made headlines as the first NBA player to come out as gay and openly discuss their sexuality.
