Having just started his first term at San Diego State University, Jeremy was full of hope and aspiration. Unexpectedly, his life was turned upside down when he lost his 20/20 vision to become legally blind in a matter of months. The cause of his plight was a rare genetic disorder known as Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, a disease which has no treatment or cure and only affects 100 people in the US. Terrified by his ordeal, Jeremy thought his life was over. However, supported by his dedicated family and friends, he discovered the power of interdependence and went from giving up on life to winning the 2010 World Blind Golf Championship in England at 20, with guidance from his father.
Since his first win, Jeremy has won another two World Blind Golf Championships and a whooping eight National Blind Golf Championships. With his newfound confidence, he has made it his life goal to spread positivity and raise awareness of LHON. Moreover, Jeremy is the co-founder of C.U.R.E. Ride, an annual fundraising bike ride that has raised $350,000 for LHON research and has a target of raising one million. His inspirational story and positive perspective have seen Jeremy featured on CNN, MTV, ABC and ESPN.
