Laura’s path was equally remarkable. Born prematurely and later diagnosed with asthma, Laura was encouraged to take up sport to help manage her breathing. After joining Welwyn Wheelers as a child, she developed into one of Britain’s most exciting endurance cyclists, building success across junior track, road and international competitions before becoming a central figure in the British Olympic Cycling Team.

Across their careers, Jason and Laura built a record that places them among the greatest cyclists in Olympic history. Jason won seven Olympic gold medals and two Olympic silver medals, with victories in the team sprint, individual sprint and keirin across Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. His Tokyo keirin triumph made him the British Olympian with the most gold medals and most medals overall, and he was later appointed Knight Bachelor for services to cycling. Laura won five Olympic gold medals and one Olympic silver medal, becoming the first British woman to win five Olympic golds and the most successful female cyclist in Olympic history. She also claimed seven World Championship titles, 14 European Championship titles, two Commonwealth Games titles and a national road race title, before being appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Since retiring, Jason has taken on the role of men’s podium sprint coach with British Cycling, while Laura has continued to influence sport through broadcasting, advocacy and her role as President of Commonwealth Games England.
