
Ian King is a world-renowned British business journalist, broadcaster and commentator with over 30 years of experience in the industry covering business, finance and the economy. As the former host of Sky News’s ‘Business Live’, Ian is known for tackling the big business stories with acute analysis, making information accessible to the public. Throughout his inspirational career, he has interviewed Prime Ministers from across the globe, along with thousands of CEOs from the world’s biggest companies.
After obtaining a Bachelor's (hons) degree in history from the University of Manchester, followed by a postgraduate diploma in newspaper journalism from City St. George’s University of London, he began his career as a Business Analyst at HSBC. Ian then took the step into reporting, becoming a City Reporter at The Telegraph in 1994. He further held reporting and editorial roles at The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian. In 2000, Ian served as Business Editor at the Sun, which he continued for 8 years until he left to join The Times as a Deputy Business Editor.
During his career at The Times, he continued to develop his skills to become Business and City Editor, followed by a Business Columnist. Ian’s presenting breakthrough came in 2014 when he succeeded Jeff Randall as Sky News’ lead business presenter, leading to him presenting over 2000 live editions. His style combined hard-hitting interviews with sharp questioning with clear explanations on how corporate stories affect people’s lives. Most recently, Ian has become an Editorial Contributor at CNBC, where he continues to share his insight.
Ian’s inspirational career has earned him numerous accolades, including being awarded the Business Journalist of the Year twice for his contributions to the industry. He has built a reputation for holding power to account and bringing business journalism to the public by making complex economic issues accessible. Currently a member of the advisory board for Alliance Manchester Business School, his unique ability to balance authority with clarity has made him a leading voice throughout journalism.
