One of the most acclaimed lawyers in the UK, Baroness Helena Kennedy has more than four decades of experience in criminal law. She has presided over such high profile cases as the Brighton bombing trial, the Balcombe Street Siege, the Guildford Four appeal, the Jihadist fertiliser bomb plot and the Michael Bettaney Espionage case.
She has actively campaigned for changes in the law for women, specifically in the fields of domestic and sexual violence, and has taken her seat in the House of Lords for the past 18 years. Baroness Kennedy was also the co-creator of the Blind Justice TV series and has presented Hearts of the Matter on the BBC.
In the past she has been chairperson for the UK Human Genetics Commission and the British Council. She is now the chairwoman of Justice and of the European Union Sub Committee as well as being co-chair of the International Bar Association’s Institute of Human Rights. She has had 39 honorary doctorates bestowed upon her and is an Honorary Fellow of both The Royal Society of Edinburgh and the British Academy. Baroness Kennedy has also had her work recognised by the French and Italian governments.
