It was in 2016 that Hannah was struck by the adversity that changed her life and led her to discover her talents as a para-triathlete. After visiting the hospital for a routine procedure involving an ingrown toenail, Hannah was left with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome after complications with the procedure. Experiencing months of pain in her leg and foot, Hannah made the decision to pay £5000 to have her leg privately amputated so she could live a pain-free life. Looking back on the then daunting adversity that faced her, Hannah is now certain that the life-changing procedure was the correct decision to make.
After months of recovery and rehabilitation, Hannah decided to take up sports as a method of coping with her newfound circumstances. It was soon evident that Hannah was talented in the discipline of triathlons, able to perform to her peak performance despite having a prosthetic leg. Hannah first took to the track at the Eton Dorney Paratriathlon World Cup, where she impressed fans of the sport and also began to forge her own fan base. Competing at the 2018 ETU Triathlon European Championships, Hannah claimed her first victory in the sport. After an impeccable performance, she claimed the gold medal and became the European Champion.
Setting the standard for triathletes, Hannah went on to perform at countless other events. She has since claimed gold at the 2018 British Paratriathlon and became the World Triathlon Champion at the 2018 World Championship. In 2019 she had another successful year, claiming a World Series win at the 2019 World Paratriathlon and another gold medal at the 2019 ITU World Triathlon Series. During her performance at the 2019 ITU World Triathlon Series, Hannah made one of the greatest achievements of her sporting career as she qualified for selection at the Paralympic Games. After such a huge victory, Hannah closed her 2019 season with another World Champion win at the 2019 Switzerland World Championships. At the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, Hannah claimed Bronze in the PTS4.
