Guinness World Record holder Ed Stafford has completed incredible feats that some could only dream of completing. Originally a captain in the Army, Ed honed his skills of drive and determination at the Sandhurst Military Academy. With the military history behind him, Ed has since gone on to push his body to the extremes as an adventurer. Ed made the history books after he became the first person to walk the length of the Amazon River, originally accompanied by his close friend before completing the demanding feat solo.
A colossal 859-day long expedition, Ed defied all odds overcoming various mental and physical challenges along the way. Battling through one of Earth’s least forgiving terrains, Ed experienced everything from deadly snakes to floods. Ed was even held on suspicion of murder for two days of his travels! Despite the adversity that his expedition posed, Ed was determined to succeed and filmed his journey along the colossal river. The footage that he recorded along the way was turned into a documentary, which has since been sold in over 100 different countries.
Since entering the Guinness World Records, Ed has been sought to feature in countless other survival series. Featuring across the screens of the Discovery Channel, Ed has featured in documentaries such as Naked and Marooned, Left For Dead and Into The Unknown. Naked And Marooned saw Ed left on an uninhabited island for 60 days, following his battle for survival with no food, water, tools or clothes. A highly successful series, Ed became a fan favourite of the channel which saw him feature in a number of other documentaries. Ed has also been able to author several books around his adventuring, including titles such as Expeditions Unpacked, Naked and Marooned, Adventures For A Lifetime, Ultimate Adventure Guide and Walking The Amazon.
In reward of his efforts, Ed has claimed the 2011 European Adventurer of the Year and the Mungo Park Medal from the Royal Scottish Geographical Society. He was even commended by renowned adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who coined his expedition ‘truly extraordinary’. Today, Ed puts his extraordinary displays of survival to use when inspiring both adults and children alike. As an ambassador for the Scouts, Youth Adventure Trust and Land Rover Ed is inspiring others to achieve their goals and works as a public speaker to carry forth his messages of drive and determination.
