Duke McKenzie MBE is one of Britain’s most accomplished professional boxers and an inspiring figure in sport. During his distinguished 16-year professional career, Duke became a three-weight world champion, winning titles at flyweight, bantamweight, and super-bantamweight. This impressive feat made him the first British fighter to win major world titles in three different weight classes. Since retiring, Duke has become a passionate advocate for mental health, using sport as a platform to support well-being. As a speaker, he shares insights on sports, high-performance midsets, overcoming adversity, and mental health, making him a versatile keynote speaker for conferences, events, and panel discussions.
In 1985, Duke won the British flyweight title after defeating Danny Flynn in the fourth round. A year later, he defended this, beating Charlie Magri. In 1991, Duke won the WBO bantamweight title after a 12-round decision over Gaby Canizales. Duke secured his third world title in 1992 with a victory over Jesse Benavides, and later became a four-time regional champion after defeating John Davison. By the end of his professional career, Duke had an impressive record of 39 wins (20 by knockout) from 46 fights.
Following his retirement in 1998, Duke transitioned seamlessly into broadcasting and media, becoming a respected boxing analyst and commentator for major networks, including Sky, ITV, BBC, Al Jazeera, as well as Talk Sport & BBC 5 Live Radio. He was also awarded an MBE in 2011 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to boxing and sport. Deeply committed to community work and mental health awareness, Duke founded the Duke McKenzie Gym in Crystal Palace, where he leads outreach initiatives that use boxing and physical activity to help young people and individuals facing mental health challenges build confidence, discipline, and resilience. He is also an ambassador for the mental health charity Mind, where he promotes wellbeing through sport.
As a speaker, Duke delivers powerful, authentic insights drawn from his journey, from humble beginnings in South London to the pinnacle of world boxing, covering resilience, mindset, leadership, and overcoming adversity. His extensive work in media and broadcasting also makes him a clear, knowledgeable communicator who empowers audiences to overcome challenges and unlock their potential.
