Growing up in Glasgow, Darren first began performing stand-up comedy gigs whilst working at a supermarket. Persuaded to leave his job behind and pursue comedy full time, Darren has since performed at top comedy festivals such as Glasgow Comedy Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Outside of stand-up comedy, Darren has also starred as Bobby in Scot Squad – a mockumentary series aired on BBC Scotland which earned him a nomination for the 2015 British Academy Scotland New Talent Awards. Darren has also performed countless solo shows across the UK and performed to a sell-out audience at the 2019 Glasgow Comedy Festival.
Since his acting debut in Scot Squad, Darren has been sought as an actor in The Glasgow Trip and Trust Me TV programmes. He has also appeared as a voice actor, voicing the character Alky Crow in Autumn Never Dies. In 2019, Darren also became the host of The Darren Connell Show podcast broadcast on Glasgow Live. Proving his popularity as a comedian, Darren has also formerly been invited to perform at the Rockness and The Wicker Man festivals. Highly commended for his performances, Darren has been a finalist of So You Think You’re Funny, Scottish Comedian of the Year and Leicester Mercury Comedy Awards.
