Cary Lynn Cooper knows the ins and outs of organisational psychology and health at the back of his hand. As the 50th Anniversary Professor of Organisational Psychology & Health at the University of Manchester, he has forged an illustrious career and is considered one of the world’s foremost experts on wellbeing.
Having completed his education from the University of Leeds, Cary was drawn to the world of academia. He spent the 1980s as the Head of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. He then held positions such as Pro-Vice Chancellor and then Deputy-Vice Chancellor of UMIST until 2002. Cary then took over as a Distinguished Professor of Organisational Psychology & Health at the Lancaster University Management School.
In addition to being Chair of the Academy of Social Sciences, Cary has written numerous books that further exemplify his prowess as an organisational psychology expert. He is the author of “Wellbeing at Work”, “Work and Organisational Psychology”, “Coping With Work Stress”, “Organisational Stress” and “How to Deal With Stress”, to name a few of his most notable works.
Accolades galore, Cary has numerous honorary degrees to his name and was appointed CBE in 2001 for his contributions to occupational and organisational health. Furthermore, in 2014 he was Knighted for his work in the field of social science. Often interviewed by leading media outlets such as BBC and ITV, Cary Cooper is a strong voice on workplace issues and organisational culture.
