Byron Vincent is a writer, performer and broadcaster whose work bridges poetry, theatre, radio, film and television. A captivating speaker, he is known for bringing lived experience of poverty, neurodivergence and mental ill health to audiences with candour and wit. He has built a career that not only spans disciplines but also challenges stigma, influences policy discussions, and amplifies working-class voices. With projects backed by the BBC, Channel 4, Unlimited, the British Council and the British Film Institute, Byron has become one of the UK’s most distinctive and important cultural figures.
Byron’s career began in spoken word, when he was recognised as one of the BBC Poetry Season’s New Talent Choices. From those early performances, he moved into radio, writing and presenting a series of acclaimed BBC Radio 4 documentaries that explored poverty, mental health and social mobility. His early years were shaped by growing up working-class while navigating Autism and ADHD, experiences that deeply inform both his creative work and his public speaking. These formative challenges not only gave Byron the insight that drives his talks but also the empathy and resilience that audiences connect with so powerfully.
As his career developed, Byron expanded into multiple fields. His short monologue No Grasses No Nonces, starring Michael Socha, aired on BBC iPlayer to wide praise. He has written and presented influential programmes including The Trouble with Social Mobility, Nothing to Lose, and The Glasgow Boys: Chaos and Calm, while his contribution to the BBC series Skint was described by The Guardian as ‘blistering’ and the ‘standout’ of the series. He is currently writing his debut feature film Lashers, supported by the BFI, and directing his feature documentary debut The In Between, funded byUnlimited and the British Council, due for release in 2025. Alongside this, Byron founded Disco Neurotico, a groundbreaking events company creating neurodivergent-accessible nightlife experiences, which has staged events at leading venues such as The Lowry and Southbank Centre. His public speaking career has been just as impactful, with appearances for NHS England, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Social Mobility, the Glasgow Centre for Population Health, Mind, and Cambridge University, among many others.
Event organisers book Byron because he speaks with authenticity, humour and intellectual rigour about subjects that matter. His keynotes span poverty, class, inequality, neurodivergence, and mental health, while also exploring storytelling, creativity, crime, and justice. By combining personal testimony with cultural critique, Byron connects with audiences on both an emotional and practical level. Byron’s ability to use humour and honesty to tackle difficult subjects makes him an unforgettable speaker, and one whose work continues to resonate long after the event ends.
