Bronwen Maddox started her career at Charterhouse Capital Partners, a private equity firm, as an investment analyst. Since then her career has gone from strength to strength, moving into the field of journalism. Now she is the Director for the Institute for Government, an organisation that works to improve the Government with the way that is led and how decisions are made. In 2022, Bronwen was appointed as the Director of Chief Executive of The Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House).
In 1991 Bronwen became a financial investigator and was later promoted to lead writer, working for the Financial Times. In 1999 she left the Financial Times in pursuit of change, joining The Times newspaper to become the Washington Bureau Chief and the US editor. In 2008 Bronwen turned her hand to book writing, publishing her book In Defence of America. Bronwen’s book In Defence of America discusses how the best aspects of America are often taken for granted, and how the worst parts are often exaggerated. 2010 saw another change for Bronwen, as she moved from The Times to become the editor of Current Affairs and Chief Executive of Prospect magazine.
September 2016 saw the start of her current position, Director of the think tank Institute for Government. Bronwen is also concerned with other organisations, such as being a non-executive board member of the Law Commission from November 2016 and being a trustee of the Imperial War Museum.
Bronwen has spoken at the Mayflower 400 Speaker Series, where she made a speech about Britain and America in relation to their trade agreement and how that agreement has affected the countries. She additionally gave her opinion on the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower, deeming the project interesting and resonate.
Bronwen has a degree in a number of subjects, including Politics, Philosophy and Economics making her an intelligent and knowledgeable individual. As of March 2018, until March 2020, she is acting as a visiting professor at King’s College in London within the Policy Institute. Given Bronwen’s history in journalism and being a professor at King’s College shows her passion for sharing her thoughts and knowledge.
Bronwen is also held the title of a governor for the Ditchley Foundation based in Oxfordshire. This foundation promotes the understanding internationally of Anglo-American relations, which is done through a programme of annual conferences on a number of different international interests.
