Ben Hammersley

Ben Hammersley is a renowned mogul in the worlds of technology, journalism and futurism, now best known as the Founder and Principal of Hammersley Futures. Sitting at the helm of an internationally acclaimed strategic forecasting consultancy, Ben puts his expertise to the test as he predicts the biggest trends in the near future. Also boasting a variety of television and radio presenting credits to his name, Ben is widely regarded as an industry leader in his fields and is regularly sought by top corporate clients, such as Pfizer, to share his expertise at their conferences and events.

Before forging his success as a futurist, Ben enjoyed a decorated career in media and broadcasting. He has presented a variety of programmes across the BBC, including being the Presenter of Cybercrime with Ben Hammersley and Futureproof Yourself for the BBC. He has also twice been the Presenter of Analysis for BBC Radio 4, hosting two episodes based on Facebook and genetic testing. Aside from television and radio, Ben has also been an avid media contributor, having worked as an Internet Reporter for The Times. Other famed roles of Ben’s include being both the Associate Editor and the Editor-at-Large of WIRED UK, Conde Nast’s magazine on the effects of science and technology.

In addition to pioneering multi-platform journalism for The Guardian, Ben is also widely known for coining the term “Podcast”. Ben’s new word, now a highly popular format of media, was named the Word of the Year by the Oxford American Dictionary back in 2005. Aside from his commitments to his futurism consultancy firm and his media contributions, Ben has also been a Fellow of the Robert Schuman School for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute, a Non-Resident Fellow of the Brookings Institution, an Innovator in Residence of the Centre for Creative and Social Technologies at the Goldsmith University of London and a Member of the European Commission High Level Expert Group on Media Freedom. Additionally, Ben has shown his support as a Trustee of the Awesome Foundation and is a Member of the Transatlantic Network 2020.
