Asha Philip is one of the most talented athletes of all time specialising in the 60m and 100m. With an innate ability for sport, Asha had the opportunity to represent the UK in both athletics and gymnastics but had to decide which one to pursue. After a freak accident whilst trampolining Asha would have to undergo three years of physical rehab before she could once again compete in the sport she loved. When hired as a speaker Asha shares with her audience the hardships she has faced throughout her career, tackling adversity, health and wellbeing, and what it takes to achieve elite performance.
At aged just 4 Asha began competing in the double mini trampoline and won gold in the World Junior Championships, held in the Netherlands, in the age 15-16 category. When Asha was 17 years old she won gold in the 100m at the World Youth Championships 2007. Shortly after this feat is when Asha suffered from a near career-ending injury whilst trampolining in Canada, severely damaging hr cruciate ligament. Having to put her sporting career completely on hold, Asha made the decision to focus solely on athletics upon her triumphant return. She has won numerous World and European medals throughout her sprinting career including gold in the 4x100m relay at the 2014 European Championships, silver in the 4x200m relay at the 2014 IAAF World Relays and a bronze medal in the 4x100m at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. At the 2016 Olympic Games she was part of the 4x100m relay team which won bronze and subsequently set a new British record for the event.
Known for her lightning-fast starts, Asha played a crucial role as the starter for most of the relays she was part of. Her speed at the start of a race also made her an exceptional 60m sprinter. She has won 10 British Championships across 60m and 100m and is the 60m British record holder. As Britain’s 5th all-time fastest female sprinter, Asha is currently a Board Member of the British Elite Athletes Association and a Committee Member of the European Athletics Association.
As an elite athlete, Asha had to sacrifice much of her personal life to training. She speaks of this sacrifice and more at corporate events. Asha is well-known for her bubbly and lively personality, lighting up any room she enters with her incredible attitude. If you need an inspirational speaker who speaks on elite performance, tackling adversity, fashion and lifestyle, and mental health, look no further than Asha Philip to hire at your next event as she shares how she remained resilient throughout her trials and tribulations.
