Environmental Journalist and Sustainability Expert, Anna Turns has developed a remarkable career creating features and radio documentaries which cover sustainability topics ranging from climate change and energy efficiency to biodiversity loss and marine conservation. After graduating with a First Class Hons BA in Biological Science from Oxford University, Anna began her professional career working as a documentary TV researcher working at independent production companies and at the BBC’s Natural History Unit on programmes such as Springwatch and Autumnwatch. Determined to develop her voice as a writer, she took on the role of Staff Writer for Devon Life Magazine in 2009, which allowed her to develop her knowledge and experience on a variety of topics. She later became the Assistant Editor and Food Editor at Devon Life Magazine, enjoying the chance to investigate stories about provenance, regenerative agriculture and traceability.In 2012, when she chose to go freelance, Anna decided to bring her biology background to the forefront of her work and has developed a diverse portfolio as an environmental journalist over the past decade.
Anna has built a strong brand for herself, and enjoys bringing her solutions focus to some challenging subjects.
In 2022, she published her debut book ‘Go Toxic Free: Easy and Sustainable Ways to Reduce Chemical Pollution'. An inspiration to many, Anna has also presented episodes of Costing the Earth BBC Radio 4 and has taught journalism undergraduates at Plymouth Marjon University. She is regularly invited to other universities to speak about climate communications as a guest lecturer. In 2023, she launched her #SixtySecondStories audio project, distilling complex issues into just one minute.
