Anna Malaika Tubbs is an American sociologist, activist and author who has recently become the youngest two-time New York Times bestselling non-fiction author at the age of just 33. With a varied academic background spanning sociology, gender and anthropology, Anna has become a trusted voice for millennials and Gen Z seeking expertise on conversations surrounding race, identity, and equity.
Following her BA in Medical Anthropology from Stanford University, Anna achieved her Master of Philosophy in Multidisciplinary Gender Studies from the University of Cambridge just one year later. With a deep passion for exploring the complex intersections of patriarchy, systemic racism and gender equality, Anna began writing essays and articles for various media outlets, such as HuffPost, For Harriet and Darling. In 2021, she released her first book, ‘The Three Mothers’, in which she championed Black motherhood through exploring the lives of three women who raised America’s most influential figures: the visionary American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., prominent African American revolutionary Malcom X, and the acclaimed writer and activist James Baldwin. The book soon became a New York Times bestseller and was selected as an Amazon Editor’s Choice. Between the publication of her first and second books, Anna continued expanding her academic acumen by achieving a PhD in Sociology, also from the University of Cambridge. In 2025, Anna published her second book, ‘Erased: What American Patriarchy Has Hidden From Us’, where she continued her work of reshaping how we perceive the past by uncovering and highlighting the significant contributions of Black women to history. The release of her second work saw her become the youngest 2-time New York Times non-fiction bestselling author, as well as a USA Today bestseller, Amazon Editor’s Choice, and was shortlisted for the Stow Prize for Literary Activism.
Her thorough insights into modern womanhood, identity, ambition and balance have seen her featured across a multitude of media, from The View, Good Morning America, CBS and This Morning, to written publications such as TIME, New York Magazine, Newsweek and The Guardian. In 2022, Anna shared her passion for showcasing the often-overlooked impact of women, especially Black women, through her acclaimed TED talk, ‘How Mothers Shape the World’, which has racked up countless views for its accessibility and thought-provoking perspectives. Anna is also the host of the Revolution Resolution podcast, where she draws from and expands on her knowledge expressed in her two works of literature.
In 2024, she acted as an MC for the Heising-Simons Foundation’s Human Rights Day where she interviewed former President Barack Obama, underscoring her status as a speaker as well as her work in building a just and inclusive world. A trail-blazing figure in social, cultural and systemic commentary, Anna is a fantastic speaker looking to inspire and educate multigenerational audiences, all whilst challenging status-quo thinking by offering clarity in today’s complex societal environments.
