Andy Torbet is a well-known TV presenter, filmmaker, explorer, and adventurer. He holds many technical qualifications and licenses in a variety of fields including skydiving, mountaineering, diving, and kayaking to name a few. Andy is a man at his peak, alongside his role as a presenter, he is also a consultant, and safety supervisor and has presented 20 shows on BBC1, BBC2, CBBC, Discovery US and the History Channel. Having operated in a variety of challenging, complex, and highly technical situations, Andy can eloquently speak on risk, fear, overcoming obstacles, motivation, and performing under pressure and he shares fascinating anecdotes about his adventures.
Before joining the Army, Andy gained a BSc Hons in Zoology, he then spent 10 years in the British Forces as a Paratrooper, Diver, and Bomb Disposal Officer. During that period, he served with Airborne Brigade, Army’s Underwater Bomb Disposal Team, and the Maritime Counter Terrorist Group. Andy was involved in operations in Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo, Northern Ireland, and The Falklands. Shortly after leaving the forces, he spent the next four years working in the security, intelligence and surveillance sector in the UK, Europe, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and West Africa. From an early age, Andy began diving and has continued to do so in a professional capacity for operations in the force, commercial vessels, over sunken cities, in caves, deep wrecks and across unexplored reefs.
Possessing a voracious appetite for adventure and exploration, Andy is also an avid skydiver and Wingsuiter. For BBC’s Cloud Lab, he jumped solo from 28,000ft over the Arizona desert strapped with scientific apparatus over his chest in a race with a Peregrine Falcon; the fastest animal in the world. He has also competed in professional speed skydiving competitions where contestants can reach 600kmph. Furthermore, Andy is a highly qualified mountaineering and climbing instructor who has done rock climbing around the world and ice climbing from Scotland to Greenland, in addition to climbing icebergs in the Arctic Ocean. Moreover, he is a trained sea-kayak guide and has led solo and team expeditions.
After leaving the military, Andy earned a Diploma in Nautical Archaeology and has recently obtained a Master’s in Archaeology. He is also a member of MENSA and a Fellow of The Royal Geographical Society. Andy developed his love for the outdoors from his childhood, having been raised in the Scottish outdoors his back garden comprised of forests and lochs. He now resides in The Forest of Dean and enjoys the outdoors as a means of relaxation. Andy leads a truly fascinating lifestyle, constantly immersing himself in new experiences and pushing his mind and body to their limit. As a speaker, he shares many extraordinary anecdotes about his adventures, in addition to talking about how he manages stress and anxiety to perform at his peak.
