Andy Green is a British Royal Airforce fighter pilot and a world record holder. He has had a successful career in the RAF and is an expert in transport engineering. Andy is an inspiration to listen to as he discusses being the first man to drive at supersonic speeds and what motivates him to continually better himself and break records. Andy’s RAF career is just the beginning of his success. In 1997 he beat the Land Speed Record that had been set 50 years previously and reached a speed of 763.035 miles per hour, making him the first person in the world to reach supersonic speeds. This record is still unbeaten today. In 2006 Andy attempted to beat the diesel Land speed record, which he did twice and still holds the record today of 350.091 miles per hour, over a decade later.
For his outstanding achievements, Andy Green was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1998 New Year Honours. He was also recognised by the Royal Automobile Club as having outstanding skill and courage on land, water, and air with the Segrave trophy. Most recently he was awarded the John Cobb Trophy, in 2006, by the British Racing Driver’s Club and received an honorary degree from Staffordshire University in 2008.
Prior to his record-breaking success, Andy’s career started with an RAF scholarship to study at Worchester College, University of Oxford where he graduated with a First Class Honours degree in 1983. Later that year he progressed within the force to a substantive Pilot Officer and qualified as a fighter pilot on F-4 Phantom and Tornado F3. As well as serving as a fighter pilot he has also completed operational tours in the Falklands Islands, the Middle East, and Afghanistan. Andy was later promoted to Wing Commander and then Officer Commanding Operations Wing at RAF Wittering.
Currently, Andy is working on the Bloodhound LSR Project. The venture has been in action since March 2019 and its aim is to beat the Land Speed Record originally set by Andy. He has been chosen as the driver of Bloodhound, for the record attempt, as he has the determination and undeniable expertise, to yet again break the sound barrier. Andy hasn’t deserted his military past either, as he now captains the Royal Airforce Cresta Run team, who won the ‘most challenging ice run in the world’ in 2011 World’s fastest man, daredevil, RAF veteran and fighter pilot Andy Green certainly has the life experience to make him a fascinating speaker. His ambition is admirable and he will inspire an audience at any age to work hard and achieve your dreams.
