Alex Jacques is a leading sports commentator and broadcaster, best known for serving as lead commentator for Formula One on F1TV and Channel 4, as well as covering the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2024. Commentating on Formula Two for over ten years, Alex is a charismatic and enthusiastic speaker, bringing high levels of experience and expertise to every live engagement.
Beginning his career with BBC Radio Suffolk covering local football, Alex soon established himself as a strong figure in the commentator space, going on to cover Premier League games for top teams like Manchester United and Liverpool. Working simultaneously as a reporter for the Times, Alex also covered other sports like cricket and eventually GP3, the predecessor to the FIA Formula 3 Championship. In 2015, he was offered the incredible opportunity to commentate on GP2 races, continuing through the rebrand to Formula 2. Growing his commentary experience further, Alex provided commentary for Formula Three and Esports, whilst also working with BBC Radio 5 Live. By 2018, Alex had begun to commentate on Formula One races for F1TV and, in 2020, covered the Indianapolis 500 for Sky Sports. The following year, he took over chief commentating duties on Channel 4, as well as providing analysis on the W Series championship for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, leading on from his departure from Formula Three. Alex was also part of the Discovery+ team that covered the 24-Hour Le Mans race in both 2023 and 2024 before retiring from Formula Two commentary to focus more on Formula One. Most recently, Alex was announced as Channel 4’s lead commentator for the 2026 Boat Races.
As a result of his extensive commentary career, Alex has been featured across a multitude of visual and audio media. From features in the BBC and Yahoo News, to speaking on various racing podcasts, Alex has become renowned for his expert insights and knowledgeable takes. In 2022, Alex lent his voice to the official F1 video game and the iconic Netflix series, Drive to Survive. That same year, he was awarded the Commentator of the Year Award in Broadcast Sports and has recently been nominated for the Best Presenter, Commentator or Pundit award at the 2026 Royal Television Society Awards. Combining his decades of experience and analytical perspectives, Alex is also the author of ‘Grid to Glory: 75 Milestone Formula One Moments’.
