Alessandro Barcherini is the Head of Academy Goalkeeping and 1st team Assistant Goalkeeping Coach at Leeds United Football Club. As a UEFA A standard goalkeeping coach, he is experienced in the footballing world both as a player and coach. When booked as a speaker, Alessandro shares his journey to the top of the football world, and the skills he had to hone in order to get there.
Alessandro was born in Terni, Italy but grew up in Bilborough, Nottingham. Football had always been a passion of his and he was determined to make a career out of it. Alessandro started his career in football at 16 as a youth player at Notts County FC being released three years later. After spending some time in the USA, he enrolled at Nottingham Trent University achieving a Bsc(hons) in Sport, Leisure & Outdoor Management and (MRes) in Sports Science. Alongside his studies, he volunteered as a coach and worked his way up from coaching infants to academy-level players. He mentions that he thought his higher education could have been his ‘In’ to a football club, potentially as an analyst and that they’d realise his qualities and take him on as a coach as he had his eyes set on employment in the Premier League.
Following this, Alessandro took responsibility for a pre-season period at the Nike Academy as a Goalkeeper Coach. Once graduating, Alessandro then moved on to job roles at Nottingham Trent University and Head of Academy Goalkeeping at Notts County FC. Since then, Alessandro has made the move to Stoke City FC where he was the Lead Academy Goalkeeping Ccoach before a brief spell at Norwich City FC. Currently, he is the 1st Team Assistant Goalkeeping Coach and Head of Academy Goalkeeping at Leeds United Football Club working with the likes of Illan Meslier where he spent three years under the Premier League Icon Marcelo Bielsa winning the EFL Championship and more recently Jesse Marsch.
Throughout his journey in the footballing world, Alessandro has achieved multiple qualifications demonstrating his prowess in the industry. He holds a UEFA A and B licence as well as a goalkeeper-specific UEFA A licence which he received in 2020. Since his success, Alessandro has been conducting guest lectures and workshops most recently at International GK Coaches Workshop (the biggest GK Conference in Europe). Alessandro Barcherini is available to hire now as a speaker for professional events regarding football, the sports industry and its pressures.
