Peter Shilton CBE, the world-renowned former footballer, has enjoyed an accomplished career in the sporting industry and is still being recognised as the greatest England Goalkeeper to date. Peter started his career at Leicester City as an apprentice at the age of 15 and made his debut at 16, which made him the youngest player to have ever played for the local team. Peter continued to play for England for 20 years whist also being transferred to different clubs, including Stoke City, Nottingham Forest, and Southampton Football Club. One of Peters main highlights throughout his career was the ‘Hand of God’ incident that occurred in the 1986 World Cup and is what inspires lots of goalkeepers to progress in football.
Peter has been awarded with multiple awards throughout his career due to him being one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world. Before being awarded MBE, OBE, and most recently CBE in the 2024 New Year Honours, he received awards such as the PFA Player of the Year, the FWA Tribute Award and induction into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002. Peter continues to hold the record for most competitive football appearances in the world and a shared world record for 10 goals conceived in 17 games.
