Charlene White is a well-recognised face on our TV screens as a presenter for both Loose Women and ITV News. She made history as the first black woman to join ITV News at Ten as a presenter, and she has featured as one of Top 100 Most Influential People in the UK of African/African-Caribbean Descent in Powerlist’s 2020 and 2021 editions. Audiences will also remember her as a participant on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2022. She is a strong advocate against racism and sexism, making her a highly influential speaker who emphasises the importance of representation of women and minorities in the media.
Charlene’s career began in 2002 when she became a reporter for BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat and 1Xtra, and in 2008, she joined ITN as an anchor on ITV News at 5:30. As of 2014, she had become the first black woman to present ITV News at Ten, moving on to be the lead presenter of ITV News London’s main 6pm programme, and an ongoing relief presenter for ITV Lunchtime News and ITV Evening News.
In 2020, Charlene was a guest presenter on Loose Women, and a year later, it was announced that she was to be a regular, soon leading the show’s first all-black panel special alongside Judi Love, Brenda Edwards, Kéllé Bryan, which won a Royal Television Society award and a BAFTA nomination. It was in 2022 that she was a participant on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, and more of her television appearances include Celebrity Gogglebox and Have I Got News For You, in addition to her own documentary, Empire’s Child in 2021.
Most recently, Charlene published her book, No Place Like Home, which explores how ‘home’ isn’t just as an address, raising questions about ancestry, identity, and belonging. Furthermore, she has written for an array of publications including The i Paper, New York Post, and The Guardian.
