With each new day, technology continues to advance in ways we once never thought possible. One of the most recent developments that is shaping the future as we know it is generative AI, but the question is – what is generative AI and how will it affect society?
What is Generative AI?
Artificial intelligence has been around for many years already, but one of its most recent advancements is generative AI.
Generative AI is defined as a form of artificial intelligence that can be used to generate a variety of images, text, audio and 3D models – which is done through extensive machine learning that allows artificial intelligence to increase its knowledge and output.
Generative AI is able to generate content that mimics human intelligence and creativity, artificial intelligence that is highly capable of creating realistic and complex material that could have once upon a time only been generated by a human.

How Does Generative AI Work?
A complex and intelligent algorithm of machine learning, generative AI functions by recognising patterns and making predictions – which allows it to mimic human intelligence and creativity. Generative AI uses a form of deep learning, that is called generative adversarial networks – a combination of a generator that creates content and a discriminator that asses the content that has been created. Working together, these two elements create a range of images, text and audio that mirror content created by humans.
Generative AI also uses unsupervised or semi-supervised learning techniques to process data and generate it’s outputs. For example, if you want a generative AI to produce an image in the style of a certain artist, you must supply them with several examples of that style for machine learning.
