Arsenal’s legendary former midfielder, Ray Parlour, was booked to speak at an exclusive dinner held at Portsmouth Football Club’s Fratton Park ground on the evening of Monday 27th April.
Parlour, nicknamed the ‘Romford Pelé’ won 10 England caps and made 339 appearances for the Gunners over the course of a 15 year professional career that saw him win 3 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, 1 League Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.
Accomplished throughout his career, Ray Parlour quietly got on with his job without any fuss or any commotion. A role model to all young aspiring midfielders, Parlour is an excellent motivational football speaker and sports speaker; his distinguished selfless nature and never ending attitude is exceptional, and something which he is very modest about. Eloquent and fluid during his speeches, Ray Parlour is a fantastic after dinner speaker; his instantly recognisable golden curls threw him up as a poster boy of 1990s football and his favourite status with the Arsenal faithful make him a Highbury icon.
Seen as one of the unsung heroes of the Wenger era at Arsenal, he is something of a cult figure with fans and, since retiring in 2007, has forged a career as a pundit making regular appearances on BBC Radio 5Live, Match of the Day and TalkSPORT.
