The first women to ski alone across Antarctica, Felicity Aston is a British polar explorer and antarctic scientist who is now an established expedition leader, author and speaker. Earning a place in the Guinness World Records following her 1744km ski in 2012 which took her a total of 59 days to complete.
At the age of 23, Felicity began her polar career, spending two and a half years at Rothera Research Station in Antarctica monitoring the climate and ozone. A born leader, Felicity then went on to organise and lead many expeditions, in particular to the Polar Regions. This resulted in her becoming the first British Women to cross Greenland. Other expeditions include a 36,000km drive to the Pole of Cold and a 6000km drive to the South Pole, she also led ski expeditions with international teams of women.
An extremely recognisable face within the media, in 2013 Felicity co-presented Operation Cloud Lab: Secrets of the Skies for BBC Two. This was a two-part documentary which involved her flying across North America in an airship. 2016 also saw her co-present another mini-series documentary for BBC History to which she had to retrace the route of 1898 Klondike Goldrush across the Yukon. A respected author of three books, one of which became a finalist in a competition at the Banff Mountain Festival.
For her work in polar exploration, she was appointed MBE and awarded The Queen's Polar Medal on top of receiving the Ginny Fiennes Award. In 2014 she won the Women of Discovery Award and then in 2019 the Special Contribution Award. Not only is Felicity a Fellow of Churchill, The Explorers Club in New York and the Royal Geographical Society in London but she also was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Canterbury Christ Church University.
