Sara Thornton

With 20 years of professional broadcasting experience at the highest level, Sara is a multi-skilled journalist, producer and news and current affairs presenter. However, it’s as a BBC and Met Office weather presenter that she’s best known, regularly appearing across all BBC nations and regions and spending time on the national team as a presenter and senior producer as well as fronting the presenting team at the Met Office in 2016. Cutting her teeth with BBC News in the regions, she’s been a reporter, programme producer and main news presenter at both the BBC and ITV.

As a news journalist and presenter, she’s polished and professional, but it was a showbiz reporter for BBC’s Liquid News, Radio 1 and ITV‘s Independent Radio News that she was able to best use her humour and personality. Her years in entertainment news have given her many a humorous anecdote gained from interviewing A-List celebrities and hanging out in a multitude of back-stage green rooms.

But her heart is in weather, although in addition to her work in broadcast meteorology, Sara is a much-in-demand presenter for BBC Radio, BBC Inside Out and other news programmes.

At the start of 2017 she launched weather blogging and content platform ‘weathertrending’, which she set up with fellow BBC Weather presenter John Hammond. She also hosts live events and is a regular public speaker, as well as content scriptwriter and editor and brings her experience to bear as a trainer for emerging presenters. Sara is taking on speaking engagements alongside her business partner, John Hammond.
