Leading Winter Olympian

British Skeleton racer Dom Parsons has had a varied and successful sporting career. Initially beginning his career as a runner, Dom now competes in a number of Skeleton races professionally.

Dom began running with Blackheath and Bromley Harriers Athletic club, where his speciality lied with the 400m race. After some time running for the club Dom decided to change his career path, switching to Skeleton in 2007. He was introduced to skeleton by Adam Pengilly, taking to the sport at Bath bobsleigh and skeleton push track. In 2008, he made his debut in the winter sport, competing at the Europa Cup.
In the following two years Dom competed at the IBSF Skeleton World Championships, where he placed fourth in 2009 and 2010. In December 2012 Dom made his debut at the Skeleton World Cup, placing 17th in the race at La Plagne in France. A year later, Dom competed at the 2013 World Cup event in Canada where he won his first bronze medal.

Sochi 2014 Olympic Games hosted Dom’s talent, finishing in tenth place. In the 2014-15 and 2015-16 Skeleton World Cups Dom placed fifth overall and in the 2016-17 Skeleton World Cup he finished tenth overall. In 2018 he competed in the St Moritz World Cup event, finishing in fourth position. Additionally, Dom impressively achieved top ten positions in the World Champions in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Dom competed in the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics , coming second in the practise run and claiming a bronze medal in the official race. Dom’s bronze medal was very important, being the first medal for Great Britain at the games as well as being the first medal in skeleton since 1948 when it was won by John Crammond.

Dom left Skeleton for a season so that he was able to complete his doctorate, studying at the University of Bath. Dom enjoys pushing himself to his limits, thriving on the pressure and importance of an event. He believes that the Olympics are the pinnacle of sport and it was always a dream of his to reach them.
