A recently retired international cricketer having represented England for 13 years, Lydia Greenway is one of the most capped players to play for England and was rated by many as the best fielder in the world.
Having made her debut in 2003 against Australia, Lydia was a permanent fixture in the England team from then on. A hugely talented fielder, she was also named the “finisher” in her batting role. Lydia played an integral part in winning both the One Day (Australia) and T20 (Lords) ICC World Cups in 2009, whist also a being four times Ashes winner having been at the crease for the first Ashes win in 42 years.
The team were rewarded with the famous open bus tour of London with the men’s team who had the same levels of success against their fierce rivals Australia.
Her performances with the bat in 2011 saw her named as England’s Player of the Year along with being shortlisted as the ICC World Player of the Year for the second year running. Lydia has travelled the world and been to some of the most famous and iconic places to visit.
Her highlight to date has been meeting the Queen at Buckingham Palace and the Dalai Lama in the foothills of the Himalayas on separate occasions; both experiences making her realise how sport opens up limitless opportunities.
In 2017, she launched an all-female cricket academy named Lydia Greenway’s Cricket for Girls, therefore she spends a lot of her time in schools and clubs delivering cricket masterclasses along with motivational talks to the children, businesses and cricket clubs. She also specialises in sports awards evenings, acting as a great host or presenter of awards.
Growing up in the male-dominated sport, Lydia has experienced a huge number of challenges in her career and believes challenges and setbacks are part of what makes successful and well -rounded people. This is at the centre of her talks along with how to get the best out of your ability and what it takes to build a World Cup-winning team.
